Photography & Film F.A.Q
If you are looking for a photographer and film-maker to suit you, it can feel like a minefield.
Below I have answered a number of frequently asked questions, to help you, not only understand how I work, but to give you an insight into the questions you should be asking when speaking to other photographers and film-makers.
All my wedding couples enquiring with me will receive a FREE pre-booking video call.
I believe it is important to check we connect and we all feel at ease, as a professional photographer and film-maker are the suppliers you will spend most your time with during your wedding day.

How much as the booking fee?
Wedding booking fees are £250 (non-refundable), this must be returned alongside a contract signed by both parties.
All smaller booking fees are £100 (non refundable).
Larger full day bookings are a £250 booking fee (non refundable).
This is called a booking fee, not a deposit. The booking fee covers, the work around securing your date (paperwork, admin time, support, payment for securing your date) Booking fees are non-refundable as this payment covers the above.
How quickly will we see our photographs?
As per contract, most wedding and small shoots I will get you a highlight gallery within 48 hours - often within 24 hours as I get excited to see them.
Complete galleries as per contract 8-10 weeks. That being said, nearly all my wedding couples receive their full galleries within 4-5 weeks.
I always communicated effectively with my clients, keeping you up to date with the progress on your gallery.

Do we have to have a pre-wedding portrait?
No, not at all. That being said it is extremely beneficial. We meet in my local area at a scenic place wearing more casual clothing. It is a fantastic ice breaker, and we run through some basic ideas for your day. This means on the day, things flow much smoother as you already have a good idea on how I work with you.
Often couples use their pre-wedding portrait for 'save the date' and other visuals for their wedding day.
Are you happy with dogs?
Yes, 110% I am a dog friendly wedding photographer in the Lake District.
I will probably get more excited about your dog at your wedding than your actual wedding. I love dogs and have two border collies myself - see photo to the right.
On the note of animals, I have actually photographer weddings with, horses, cows, sheep, owls, donkeys, and even a cat!

What Happens if it rains on my wedding day?
Being a Lake District photographer and film-maker, I am very much use to the ever altering weather conditions. I am happy to work whatever the weather. So if you are up for it, grab them walking boots, a thin mack and lets adventure.
Some of my favourite portraits have been captured in the most epic thunder storms!
How do you edit your photographs & film?
I use a variety of editing techniques in a variety of professional softwares what I pay for. Ultimately and most important to me is the fact, I DO ALL MY OWN EDITING, NO AI PROCESSES HERE!
Whilst many in the creative industry now use AI so they can cram in work, I absolutely believe I chose to be a creative to be a creative.
I love what I do and I do not want to use AI to do my job for me.
This is seriously worth considering when speaking to other photographers.

Can we add extra hours to our package?
Yes, absolutely. I have even added an extra hour on, even on the day at some weddings. Especially if it is looking like a sunset or something like that. We sort the payment difference out afterwards.
This is all done smoothly with great communication between the photographer and couple.
What happens if you are ill?
Firstly, I have never missed a wedding in my 15 years of shooting them.
Obviously, there is plans in place. I am blessed have a wonderful collection of Lake District photographer associates where we all support each other in the Lake District and even further afield if needed.
I can get someone suitable to cover your day, and would always plan on doing the editing. I would always ensure that the selection is as near to my approach as possible, to ensure a comfortable service for the couple still.
If for whatever reason I can not do the editing, I would pass the complete job over to the right person. This would not cost the client.

Do you travel for work?
Yes, I have travelled to Australia and South Africa with my career so far. I would love to do more abroad. Also, FYI, getting me to travel abroad is not as costly as you would think!
Travelling within the UK is something I do most months. I absolutely love being a Scottish wedding photographer, too!
Sometimes there are small, reasonable travel or accommodation fees, we discuss this when I have your wedding details.
Do you offer film alongside photography?
I do offer Lake District film alongside photography.
I build this accessible 'add on' around my own personal ideas on films. Personally, I would not want full speeches and vows recorded, I do not feel I would watch them in full.
Therefore, I am not a full videographer. My films are focused very much on the couple and the details of the day. Without things like full speeches, full vows etc covered.
I produce a shorted 10-15 minute film which is worthwhile watching.

What if I cancel?
There is a cancellation policy in place, which is on your contract. This cancellation policy is always followed through.
If you cancel outside of the cancellation policy dates, you will only lose your booking fee.
The cancellation policy is in place to protect us both.
Do we need to feed you?
Any wedding over 6 hours I request a hot meal. This ensures I am fuelled and tip-top to do my job. I am happy to be seated wherever suit you best, some couples like me with their guests, some offer me a quiet break away from everyone. I honestly do not mind which, I am grateful to eat.

Do you have a drone?
Yes, it was a no brainer to me as a Lake District photographer to have a drone given all the stunning scenery. I actually have a few drones. I do not advertise this a lot. Mainly because the use of drones can be so variable. Weather, lighting, time, venues. There are many restrictions - I will use it if I can. My drone is never promised, it is just a cheeky little bonus for you if I can get it in the air.
I love using my drove for alternative shots of couples, full wedding group portraits and cool scenery angles.
Do you do wedding albums?
Yes, I use a Yorkshire wedding album company for my client albums. I price these upon ordering to ensure the best price for my clients. Turn around time is about 6 weeks from approving your album proof.
I also offer a variety of other photographic options - fine art prints, canvas', print packs, keepsake options.
